The Original Energy Bar
George Romney Ltd. produced Kendal Mint Cake for the first time back in 1918 based on an original recipe from Joseph Wiper back in 1869. Wiper took his eye off the pan while making a batch of clear mints — and just like that Kendal Mint Cake was born!
From humble beginnings to scaling those incredible heights, Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake has always been seen as the original energy bar, perfect for even the most extreme of conditions.
And, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Sirdar Tenzing carried our cake on the first successful summit of Mount Everest back on the 29th May 1953, it’s reputation has gone from strength to strength — remaining a firm favourite of many adventurers around the world to this day.
