Romney's Kendal Mint Cake The Struggle Hill Climb

Romney's Kendal Mint Cake The Struggle Hill Climb
The Romney's team felt great pride on Sunday as we were the title sponsor of the 2022 The Romney's Kendal Mint Cake Struggle Hill Climb. Started in 2019 by Jack Talbot, The charity event is held in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance, with 100% of the £15 entry fee going directly to the local charity. Whilst we are still waiting on a final count for the amount of money raised, we can announce that the figure currently stands above £2,000!

The event took place on the infamous and aptly named Struggle Hill. Starting in Ambleside, riders were taken on a 2.67 mile long journey, featuring an ascent of 386 vertical meters, with an average gradient of 8%. The finish line was located just outside the famous Kirkstone Pass Inn, where riders were greeted by large crowds ringing cowbells and cheering words of encouragement.
Everyone who participated did incredibly well to reach the summit and some of the times recorded were quite frankly staggering! It was truly a pleasure to be part of such a special event and we would like to thank everyone who got involved including the riders, volunteers, medics, the Cold Dark North team & the members of the public who came along to cheer the riders on! But the biggest thank you has to go to Jack Talbot who organised the whole event and ensured everything ran smoothly.
Before the race began, the Romney’s team gave each rider a free bar of Kendal Mint Cake to power them up the Struggle! During prize giving, the male and female winners also received a limited edition Romney’s King of the Mountain cycling jersey! We even had three riders wearing our King of the Mountain cycling jerseys during the event as John Barron (our MD with a time of 18 mins 6 seconds), Andy Taylor (Anything Technical Ltd - Ski and Leisure with a time of 19 mins 33 seconds) & Scott Mitchell (Cycle the Nation with a time of 20 mins 26 seconds) proudly wore Romney's colours!
Hopefully, we can also be involved again in next year's iteration of the Struggle Hill Climb as it was a truly special day and we all had a blast!
