In Spring 2019, Romney's Ltd was asked by BBC2's "Inside The Factory" to appear in the Fifth Series of their hit documentary programme, to be aired in May 2020.
Inside The Factory takes viewers on a manufacturing journey, through some of Britain's biggest and best known brands. The series is presented by Gregg Wallace and Cherry Healey, with historian Ruth Goodman providing a look at how products came to exist as we know them today.
This week's episode sees Gregg visit the Eat Natural factory in Halstead, Essex, which produces 400,000 fruit- and nut-packed treats a day. Historian, Ruth, then makes a trip to the Lake District, to find out more about the 'original energy bar', Romney's Kendal Mint Cake. On her journey, Ruth speaks to mountaineer, Mollie Hughes. Mollie tells Ruth about the important role Romney's Kendal Mint Cake played in the first successful ascent of Mount Everest, by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sirdar Tenzing, in May 1953.
Ruth also comes to our Kendal factory, where she speaks to Managing Director, John Barron, and gets 'hands on' in making her own bar of our world-famous Kendal Mint Cake. Ruth enjoyed looking through our history archives, particularly the British Mount Everest Expedition's original order form, for 300 bars of Romney's Mint Cake, which makes an appearance in the show. It was a pleasure to meet Ruth and play a part in such a popular and fascinating TV programme.
