On Friday 27th of September, four members of the George Romney family represented the company in the inaugural Cumbria Tourism Charity Golf Day at Carus Green. After a bacon bun and a warm up on the driving range, the team made their way to the 17th hole for the start of the Texas Scramble. The George Romney team performed incredibly well, with 10 pars, 7 birdies and a nice eagle to finish our round on the par 5 16th hole. They finished with a score of 55 which was enough to claim first place, what a team!
On behalf of everyone at George Romney Ltd, we would like to say a huge thank you to Gill, Sarah & the wider Cumbria Tourism team for organising such a fantastic charity event. The event raised a staggering £10,735 which will be used to support young people as they journey into the tourism and hospitality sector and really help them as they start their careers in our wonderful Cumbria visitor economy. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Carus Green Staff for their generous hospitality and for providing such an enjoyable course to compete on.
To mark its 50th anniversary year, Cumbria Tourism has teamed up with the county’s leading grant maker, Cumbria Community Foundation, to launch a new charitable fund to help kickstart people’s careers in tourism and hospitality.
Recognising the barriers faced by some as they contemplate a career in the sector, the Cumbria Tourism 50th Anniversary Fund, administered by the Foundation, will help people aged 16 and over access career opportunities in tourism and hospitality by providing financial support for specialist equipment, training, study materials and travel costs, among other things.
